This particular printing - either in the late 70s to early 80s - has been touted by many as the "unofficial second printing, " "first bootleg, " or "hairy bootleg" (more on that later). What this means is that no matter what you call it, it is not an actual release from Fox, but rather a poster printed by someone who actually had access to the original printing plates. Assuming the original printer had retained the plates, this was likely printed using the same machine that printed the originals.
Although the print quality is top notch, there are some differences that separate it from an original. Second, the colors are warmer than the original, namely to the browns. Many feel that the colors are actually better on the reprint than the orignal (but you be the judge). Lastly, a couple small hairs found their way onto the printing plate, and one can be found touching Luke's belt, and another tiny one on Leia's thigh. Neither is all that noticeable under normal viewing, but a close-up pic is provided to show the one near/on Luke's belt.
The poster itself is in near mint condition. There is only a little bit of rippling to the paper at the top of the poster, but most of this anomaly will frame out. This is the perfect poster for a fan who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg on an original, or for someone who doesn't want to ruin an original by getting it signed.
The quality of this bootleg is unsurpassed by today's mass-produced copies. Because it was printed using the original plates 30+ years ago, it still has that old, original poster look and feel, without the heavier paper or dark, muddy colors getting in the way of today's prints (not to mention today's smaller 27" x 40" size, too). And because this is a "vintage" printed bootleg, it has become collectible (and in a way, historical) in its own right.
